MOTOREST PUMPA
Průhonice, Česká Republika
2021-2022
Ing. Arch. Ivan Kolář
Atelier A32
Finding a decent and architecturally pleasant gas station in the Czech Republic is basically impossible. However, this paradigm was destroyed by “Pumpa” - a modern motorrest located on the D1 higway in the direction of Brno. Not only a gas station, there is also an amazing restaurant and bakery to be explored. The building also functions as a noise protection wall.
This project was created by the architectural studio A32 and according to the investor, it is the first motorrest of its kind in the whole Czech Republic.
“The original task was to build a gas station, which would be located next to a traditional noise protection wall. We wanted to find a solution which would be more respectful to the surroundings. We came up with the design of a multifunctional building, which ticks off the requested functionality but is accessible both from the highway and the city which is more beneficial. We wanted to show people, that an ordinary building such as a gas station with a restaurant, can be done differently,” Ivan Kolář describes.
For the restaurant area, we chose a floor in a smoked oak design due to it’s better long term color stability. For a higher resistance, the floor has an artisan finish and brushing. Different widths of planks were used to create the pattern which goes hand in hand with the visible industrial ceiling construction.
